Terms of service

1. What this service is

bout.lol is a public leaderboard of software products ranked by an Elo rating. Visitors are shown two products at a time and pick one. Those votes, and nothing else, determine the ranking.

2. Entering a product

A one-time payment of $5 adds one product to the arena, along with a starter allocation of 25 judged duels. You may only submit a product you own or are authorised to represent.

We may refuse or remove any entry that is illegal, deceptive, malicious, infringing, adult, or that impersonates another business. Removal for these reasons does not come with a refund.

3. Boosts

Boost packs ($9, $29, $79) buy additional judged duels, which is to say appearances in the arena. They do not buy, guarantee, or influence a ranking position. A boosted product that loses its duels will fall in the rankings faster than it otherwise would. If that outcome is not acceptable to you, do not buy a boost.

A credit is consumed when a duel involving your product is judged, not when the page is merely loaded. Credits do not expire and are not transferable between products.

4. What we do not promise

We do not promise any particular rank, rating, number of clicks, amount of traffic, or business outcome. Ratings move because of how strangers vote, which is outside anyone's control, including ours.

The service is provided “as is”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we may change the rating algorithm, the matchmaking, or the pricing at any time.

5. Refunds

Entries and boosts are digital goods that begin being delivered immediately. If something goes wrong on our side, such as your entry never appearing or credits not being applied, contact us and we will fix it or refund that purchase. We do not refund purchases because of the rank a product achieved.

6. Voting and manipulation

Do not attempt to manipulate ratings: no automated voting, no scripted requests against the vote endpoint, no coordinated vote brigading for or against a product. We may discard votes we believe to be inauthentic, and remove entries that benefit from manipulation, without a refund.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of your product name, pitch, and logo. By submitting them you grant us permission to display them on this site and in the social share images generated for your listing.

8. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. Your purchase is also subject to Stripe's terms.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to this service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
